The Well Brew publishes general information about dietary supplements. Nothing on this site is medical advice, a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Please read this page before acting on anything you read here.
Who writes our content
Our reviews are written by Maya Ellison, our Reviews Editor. Maya is not a doctor, dietitian, nurse or pharmacist and holds no medical credentials. We explain labels, research and costs. We cannot judge what is right for your body.
Talk to a clinician first
Before you start, stop or change any supplement, talk with a doctor, pharmacist or other qualified clinician. This matters most if you:
- Are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or nursing.
- Take any prescription or over-the-counter medication.
- Are under 18.
- Have a health condition, or have surgery coming up.
- Have had a reaction to a supplement before.
Supplements can interact with medications and affect lab tests. A clinician who knows your history is the right person to weigh that.
How supplements are regulated
In the United States, the FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety or effectiveness before they are sold. Makers are responsible for their own products and claims. A product being on sale does not mean it works or that it is safe for you. You can read more on the FDA dietary supplements page.
Research has limits
We grade research as carefully as we can, but studies can be small, short, funded by sellers or done at different doses than a product uses. Results in a study are not a promise of results for you. New research can also change what we know.
Emergencies
If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 right away. Do not wait to read a website.
Report a bad reaction
If a supplement causes a side effect, stop taking it and contact your clinician. You can also report the problem to the FDA through its MedWatch program.
Accuracy
