Foods That Lower Blood Pressure: What the DASH Trials Show

The Well Brew featured card reading Foods That Lower Blood Pressure, with a line about a USDA potassium table, the DASH plan and the trials, on a dark brown background

The foods that lower blood pressure best are potassium-rich vegetables, fruit, beans, low-fat dairy and fish, eaten together with less salt. In the DASH-Sodium trial, that pattern cut systolic pressure by 11.5 mm Hg in people with high blood pressure. Baked potatoes, lentils, squash and bananas are easy starting points. No single food or drink works fast, and none replaces prescribed medicine.

Read the label first. Then decide.
